The 1564 Problem

Welcome to The 1564 Problem Blog
I don't know about the rest of you, but I am regularly frustrated by the number of songs that are released that use the same tired old I V Vi IV chord progression. I've decided to start a blog to catalog these songs. We have the comedy musical act Axis of Awesome to thank for bringing this to the public's attention. Have a look at their original YouTube video. They have coined it the "four chord song".
The chord progression can be used in two common ways - I V vi IV, or vi IV I V. Many good songs have been written using this chord progression, but many songwriters seem to be using it as a crutch, and I believe that, with more awareness of the problem, composers might spend a little more time and write some even better music!
As I learn how this blog works, I will encourage people to add their 1564 finds to the list.
